Caledonia in Yorkville to get an explorer park

The next best thing to going on an exciting, colorful, jungle safari may be living at Caledonia, Wyndham Deerpoint Homes' community of semi-custom single-family residences in Yorkville-where homeowners will benefit from a new four-acre park with an island theme where every child can be an explorer. The City of Yorkville will develop this park, pending approval of the plan by the Yorkville City Council.

This exciting park will be located at the corner of Wheaton Avenue and Shadow Wood Drive within the Caledonia property. Like the City of Yorkville's other parks, which have all incorporated a fun, kid-friendly theme, this one has been designed to appeal to the adventurous explorer in all of us.

"We've designed some really successful park concepts in recent years in Yorkville. By basing all the playground equipment and park amenities on a dominant theme, we can make them really interesting for everyone in the community," said Dave Mogle, director of parks and recreation for the City of Yorkville, who added that other parks in the city are built around railroad, farm, transportation and schoolhouse themes, to name a few.

To play up the exotic safari angle, Caledonia's new park will feature playground equipment that creates the landscape of a jungle, even including jungle animal shapes and adventurous play equipment. Play structures will resemble treehouses or jungle forts, and there will be slides, swings and interactive play panels that all maintain the explorer theme.

"It will be set up so that the main area will give the impression that you're on an island surrounded by a sea of woodchips with pathways and bridges that provide access to the play area," Mogle said.

The park will also include a rock climber and observation deck, which will be outfitted with a real viewfinder that can be accessed by handicapped individuals.

"It will be similar to the binoculars you will find at scenic overlooks, and it will be aimed at a large, 15-acre wetland area south of the park that we anticipate will be an active bird habitat," added Mogle, noting that the conceptual plans for the park are preparing to go before the city council for approval. "There will be plenty of multipurpose grass areas for people to participate actively in park activities, too. I think that the project will be well received by the community as the homes are being built. The way that it is being designed and constructed is that it will be beneficial to children of all ages as well as our older adult population who like to enjoy the open space."

The new park and all of its interactive features "will really inspire creativity and provide a place where Caledonia residents can relax, unwind and play outside of their homes," said Diane Robinson, director of marketing for Wyndham Deerpoint Homes.

For buyers looking to get into a home quickly, there are exceptional deals now available on three inventory homes at the community that are ready for immediate move-in, each including a finished basement with a bathroom:
  • The Bentley, located at 3406 Ryan Dr., is priced at $338,316 (all prices subject to change without notice). This four-bedroom, stone-front home has two-and-a-half baths, a woodburning fireplace in the family room, hardwood flooring in the foyer, kitchen, dinette and powder room and has a professional landscaping package.

In addition to the new park, coming soon to the area will be the Countryside Center shopping district at the intersection of Routes 34 and 47, a Wal-Mart superstore, and a new shopping complex just south of the river.

"The City of Yorkville has so much going for it, from its highly rated public schools to the ambitious plans underway to revitalize the city's downtown area," Robinson noted.

Set on a picturesque parcel off Corneils Road just west of Rt. 47 (located only minutes from I-88), Caledonia is comprised of 61 homesites in Phase I. Construction is well underway, and first occupancies have recently begun.

Buyers in less of a hurry to move in right away can select from 10 designs in all at Caledonia.
