For many homeowners, a basement is like a home within a home-a special sanctuary for the kids, entertaining friends, exercising with fitness equipment, conducting a home-based business, you name it. Which is why many new home buyers choose to finish an unfinished basement sooner or later and put the valuable space to better use. But finishing a basement can cost tens of thousands of dollars, and most new home builders don't even offer a finished basement option to its customers. But don't despair, basement lovers. Wyndham Deerpoint Homes is prepared to complete your dreams-and your entire lower level, too. Twenty lucky purchasers will receive a complimentary finished basement with bath at the semi-custom builder's two newest communities: Caledonia in Yorkville, and The Estates of Fox Chase in Oswego. "The next 10 buyers of new-start residences at each community will get their basements finished for free, which equates to a value exceeding $30,000," said Diane Robinson, marketing director for Wyndham Deerpoint Homes. "And these aren't just average-sized lower levels, these are nine-foot poured basements complete with a three-quarter bath and extra storage space." Robinson said that finished basements are a hot commodity, especially among buyers with children-who represent the majority of purchasers at its communities. "Our market is geared primarily toward families, who appreciate the generous square footage and family friendly amenities provided in our homes, including a full basement that comes standard in every residence at Caledonia and the Estates of Fox Chase," she added. "Eventually, most buyers decide to finish these basements, so we know it's a big priority for them. Because of the popularity of finished basements, we expect this incentive to be claimed quickly, so I would act soon." In all, Caledonia buyers can select from 10 designs-including two ranches. Each home features three to four bedrooms, two to two-and-a-half baths, two- to three-car garage, upscale cabinets, Whirlpool appliances, and fully sodded front yard and professional landscape package. Other standard perks include nine-foot first-floor ceilings, a full basement, oak or birch kitchen cabinets-including 36" upper cabinets-Whirlpool appliances, hardwood flooring and decorative ceramic tile throughout much of the first level, a 93 percent efficient gas furnace, and more. Sizes span from 1,614 to 3,234 square feet and prices range from $294,900 to $374,900 (all prices subject to change without notice). Construction is now underway at Caledonia, where first deliveries are expected to begin and new models slated to open in August. Buyers seeking to be moved in by summer can select from two inventory homes now available at Caledonia, each including four bedrooms, two-and-a-half baths, and a full finished basement (8' pour): The Hampton at 3395 Ryan Drive, offering birch cabinets, planning desk and handsome crown molding in the kitchen, wood flooring in the foyer, dinette, kitchen and powder room, and 2,075 square feet, priced at $307,905. The Bentley located at 3406 Ryan Drive, featuring stone front exterior, wood-burning fireplace in the family room, center work island in the kitchen, and 2,390 square feet, priced at $354,516. Each home at The Estates of Fox Chase, meanwhile, features three to five bedrooms, up to four baths, a full basement, wood flooring in the kitchen and foyer, a wood-burning fireplace, full custom oak staircase, maple, oak or hickory kitchen cabinets-including 36-inch upper cabinets-nine-foot first-floor ceiling, decorative crown molding, and a fully sodded homesite with professional landscape package. Depending on the home selected, some homes also offer a dual staircase, three-car garage, first-floor master suite and an elegant gourmet kitchen. Robinson noted that buyers can select from eight distinctive two-story styles and two spacious ranch designs, including a ranch that features an optional second-floor finished bonus room. Sizes vary from 1,988 to 3,996 square feet and base prices range from $380,900 to $514,900 (all prices subject to change without notice). The Estates of Fox Chase currently has one inventory residence for sale-available for immediate occupancy. The Durbin, set at 187 Willowwood Drive, boasts four bedrooms, two-and-a-half baths, a full finished basement (8' pour), attached three-car garage, maple cabinets and upgraded appliances and crown molding in the kitchen, two-story stone wood-burning fireplace in the family room, upgraded master suite with oversized walk-in closet and volume ceiling, wood flooring in the kitchen, foyer, dinette and powder room, and 2,669 square feet, priced at $399,900.
